Hu’s Morality List

March 16, 2006
I must admit that I am a news junkie, especially international news.  I find myself checking CNN, CBC, Pravda and Al Jazeera headlines several times a day.  It’s fascinating how different countries differ in how they report and interpret the news.  It’s blatantly obvious that journalists are NOT impartial observers that we think they should be.
Although I don’t support Communism, I am a strong supporter of Socialist Democracy.  Hu Jintao (China) issued an official morality list which espouses the ideals of socialism and diminishes the scourge of capitalism.  I was quite impressed with the simplicity and apolitical social responsibility that are represented in Hu’s morality list.  The only thing missing is a statement of fundamental freedoms.  China still has a ways to to go.
Hu’s virtue list
  • Love, do not harm the motherland.
  • Serve, don’t disserve the people.
  • Uphold science; don’t be ignorant & unenlightened.
  • Work hard; don’t be lazy and hate work.
  • Be united and help each other; don’t gain benefits at the expense of others.
  • Be honest and trustworthy, not profit-mongering at the expense of your values.
  • Be disciplined and law-abiding instead of chaotic and lawless.
  • Know plain living and hard struggle, do not wallow in luxuries and pleasures
